Built Around Your Safety

E470’s mission is to improve your journey through safety, service, stewardship, and reliability. From navigating Colorado’s fast‑changing weather to the safety features built into every mile of our road, we’re committed to keeping you protected whenever you travel with us.

Improving Ramp Intersections at Jewell Ave.

After hearing concerns from the community, E470 partnered with the City of Aurora to improve visibility and make left turns safer at the E470 ramp intersections at Jewell Avenue. As part of our commitment to safety, we funded more than $1.2 million to install the new signals. A major safety upgrade—and an important milestone we’re proud to support.

New Pavement Markings

E470 recently widened its roadway striping from 4 inches to 6 inches to make lane markings easier to see—especially at night. We also switched from paint to adhesive reflective tape, which shines brighter and lasts longer. And along the shoulders, new rumble strips add another layer of protection by alerting drivers when they drift. Small upgrades with a big impact on safety.

Improved Signage

Each year, E470 replaces faded road signs with new ones made from high retro‑reflectivity sheeting, giving drivers clearer visibility at night. We’ve also added new speed radar signs north of 64th Avenue to help drivers monitor their speed and navigate curves with more confidence.

Cable Median Barrier

Cable median barrier runs along all 47 miles of E470, helping prevent cross‑over crashes by absorbing impact and keeping vehicles from entering oncoming traffic. Since installing the system, there have been zero cross‑over fatalities on E470—a milestone that reflects our commitment to safety. We’re also adding cable barrier in select shoulder locations to strengthen protection and give drivers even greater peace of mind.

Wrong Way Driver Prevention

Wrong‑way signs and directional pavement arrows are installed at every E470 off‑ramp as a standard safety feature. The flashing signs work together with the pavement markings to catch the attention of drivers who may be focused only on the roadway ahead—helping prevent wrong‑way entries and keeping everyone on the right path.

Deer Fence

E470 uses deer fencing to help reduce vehicle‑wildlife collisions and improve safety along the corridor. Before the fence was installed between Parker Road and Smoky Hill Road, the area saw about 15 deer‑related incidents per year. Today, that number is down to around five. Deer fencing was added as part of our most recent widening project from I-70 to 104th Ave., and future widening projects will continue to include this important safety feature.
