From the Tollway to the Trailways
E470 is more than a tollway. As part of our road widening work over the past several years, we’ve built more than 24 miles of the High Plains Trail. The trail runs alongside the road and creates better connections for people walking or biking, linking them to major paths across the east Denver metro area, including Cherry Creek, Piney Creek, Happy Canyon, and the C470 trails.
We also partner with our member communities on trail projects throughout the region. It’s another way we support how people move — on wheels, on foot, and everywhere in between.

Current Trail Projects
- The current phase of E470 road widening will include an extension of the High Plains Trail from 26th to 64th Avenues and from 88th to 104th Avenues within Aurora and Adams County. The trail extension is expected to be complete by 2025.
- E470 (along with other municipalities) has partnered with Arapahoe County to help fund a pedestrian overpass to help facilitate safer crossings at Parker Road for people on foot. The overpass is the first phase of a project that will eventually connect the High Plains Trail to the Cherry Creek Trail in Arapahoe County. For project updates, please visit Arapahoe County’s website.
Future Trail Projects
2026
- The Authority will team up with Adams County to extend the Platte River Trail through the Riverdale Bluffs Open Space. E470 is contributing funding for this trail extension.
